What are we not doing today? That was often the question in our relationship. Steffi and I have been together for many years and over time we planned more than we did. The weekend was coming up and we wanted to do something, go out for a meal, hike in the mountains, meet friends, just have a good time. But our friends often cancelled, we were regulars at the Italian restaurant around the corner out of convenience and the weather was often too rainy for us to go hiking 😕
After spending the weekend on the couch again when a couple we were friends with had other plans, I had to make a change. So I started googling to meet new people in the neighbourhood and ended up on Meet5. As we now do so much online, I thought that meeting people online should work just as well 😃
First of all, I told Steffi about Meet5, created an account and we looked through the app with excitement: Who is out and about there? Who do we already know? What are the most popular activity categories? Can we find something for both of us? We simply wanted to bring more life back into our lives. I quickly realised that there is a huge variety of meet-ups in our area. You could eat at many different places and many of the activities were full of friendly faces. To start with, we registered for the Meet5 weekly get-together. Luckily there were just two places left. We were very excited to see what it would be like and we spent longer than usual discussing what to wear and whether we should sit next to each other or deliberately leave some space between us. After all, it's all about getting to know new people 🍻
The activity got off to a leisurely start, but I was immediately pleased that people were on time and there was only one cancellation out of twelve people. We deliberately sat down so that we could only talk to each other over heads. So many new people at once was a bit of an adjustment for me, but we got into a relaxed conversation about Meet5 and which activities we had already been to. The meal took place almost as a side event, we were so engrossed in the conversations. I remember it like yesterday, because the next topic was Prince Charles and Lady Di. The table was buzzing for at least half an hour and Steffi openly admitted that she had always loved Prince William. I can't remember all the other topics, but it turned into a fantastic evening that we talked about for a long time afterwards.
At home, we got straight back to the app and made plans for the next few weeks. Both meetings alone and together. A good mix has been our goal ever since. I've found a great hiking group, but it always fills up quickly. That's why I'm now a Premium member, because it's important to me to be able to join all activities without delay. However, Steffi never takes my place in the hiking group; she has now admitted that she used to go hiking just for my sake and almost always wished for rain. Now the sun definitely shines more often for us.
Thank you Meet5! 🍀
